Disabled Orang Asli woman happy to get vaccinated

GUA MUSANG: Being a person with disability did not stop Syirin Sandang from heading to the Kuala Betis Silver Jubilee Hall Covid-19 vaccination centre here to get vaccinated.

Accompanied by her mother Azizah Bachik, 61, 25-year-old Syirin who was on a wheel-chair, was carried by volunteers as she arrived at the centre this morning.

The duo from Kuala Betis, were among 230 Orang Asli people who received their first vaccination dose during an outreach programme here yesterday.

Speaking to reporters later, Syirin said she was informed that her name was selected for the programme last week.

“I was so happy after receiving the call from tok batin (Orang Asli village head). He informed me that I will be vaccinated at this programme.

“Since then, I was so excited and could not wait for the day. I want to show other Orang Asli that even as a disabled person, I am willing to be vaccinated,” she said.

The mother of a two-year-old daughter suffered the disability three years ago due to a high fever.

Azizah also got her first vaccination during the programme which was attended by Rural Development Deputy Minister I Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad.

“So far, only Syirin and me in our family were inoculated. We hope that the rest of our family including my husband will soon get their vaccinations,” said the mother of seven.
